Project #2: 1976 - 1984

Company Name: Oceaan Farming Systems, Inc. (OFS)

This marine farm was constructed on Plantation Key, The Florida Keys, on the Atlantic side of the island. The entire property was 10 acres with 1,450 feet of ocean frontage.

The original pompano research farm was constructed by Neptunian Aquaculture between 1967 to 1972. M.F. McMaster purchased the property and tank assets in 1976. Starting in 1978 M.F. McMaster designed and constructed a 68,000 square foot mariculture building. At the time, this facility was the single largest concrete floor building in the entire Florida Keys. The seawater source was from shallow wells.

There were three distinctly different businesses that operated at this facility, (1) pompano farming research, (2) marine ornamental collection and were sold throughout North America and Europe, (3) farmed live brine shrimp (artemia) and other specialty live products.
